Coming to Holister; Question for you California guys.

I will be coming to Holister this year and will be bringing a truck.

After Holister we are planning on taking a week off. Our plan is to go to Yosemite then on to Reno. It looks as Yosemite does not have any camp sites big enough for my truck and camper with the trailer so it looks like I will be Groveland and drive into the park without the trailer. My question is in getting to Reno from there is Hwy 4 good enough to tow on. I will be pushing 23K lbs and I really do not want to go down any steep curvy 2 lane highways. If Hwy 4 is not good enough what what would be a good road to take? I was thinking of Tioga pass but it is longer and not open as yet.
