Hey:

I finally got the Beast up in the air and was able to find #'s off the drive train. For those not in the know, the Beast has a mystery drive train. I know the main man with the plan is gonna be tied up for a while, so I'll see if anyone else out there has a clue. The reason for my impatience is that we plan to finish the body and paint soon, and I'd like to get the mechanicals as straight as possible BEFORE the Beast goes up on stands and torn apart.

According to the great master, the Beast has a Poly 318 in it. Norm told me where to locate the #'s, but I was unable to as there are to many things in the way (and I'm not quite ready to tear the block apart yet), but I was able to find what I think is the build date, 3-26-64. That was on the pass side, below the exhaust manifold. A little above that and more towards the firewall was the letters DN. Right below that was a circle with like a triangle attached pointing towards the N, with a U in the circle.

On the trans there was a tag that said: New Process. Stamped into the tag was Model # 540, Ratio 741, Assb # 3527785DIL36, Serial # 2375. On the casing itself was stamped # 092581, & # 7-23-74 (which I assume is the build date). The only #'s found on the transfer case was on the rear by the yoke, C-92501Q (the 9 may be a small 0). CAN ANYBODY HELP?

TIA
Ugg

PS: I heard the tranny is a rare overdrive unit, and that the Beast is from a contract of 450 built.
