Check your local tool supplier. I just picked up an air driven flanger. It makes one stroke for every pull of the trigger. It was $70. It has been worth its weight in gold. I have flanged over 10 feet of seams to be welded. It really makes the job easy and it not hard on the hands like a hand flanger.
One the seam is flanged I hold the parts in place with cleekos followed by mig welding spots every 1' to 1 1/2" on both sides if possible then fully weld it with the mig welder.
The link is a picture of a completed flanged seam. It only needs minor filler to fill along the weld.
