420 input shaft

I looked in the archives but still have an input shaft question. I have read that the longer NP420 input shaft from the w/d series trucks is interchangeable with the 420 input shaft in the WM300. Will that longer shaft fit into an earlier ffpw with the non-synchro trans? I am looking at doing a engine swap and I have the hydro universal bellhousing and would like to keep the original trans with its PTO. Anyone know the answer?
