If you are going to tow the Town Wagon across country then do it right as it is too far not to.

First as several have said get a trailer with two axles and a minimum of 10K rating. Do not flat tow it as it will push you all over the road. You must have brakes on the that load with the weight that you will have behind you. If you do not it will come right up your arse when you slow down. I personally saw that happen to one truck. Trailer brakes failed and it pushed him sidways into a a jacknife and rolled both the Pick up and the trailer.

You will need a 3//4 to 1 ton truck to tow with. A 1/2 ton does not have sufficient suspension nor brakes to take a load like that. A dually would be best. Look at the GCVW rating of your truck (total gross vehicle combination weight truck trailer and any load). With what your talking about you will exceed the maximum.

I now that I am helping you spend money that you may not hav, but look at it this way. If you tow it with substandard equipment or exceed any weight rating or the trailer or truck, and have an accident you will be in deep problems. If you hurt or kill someone your pockets will be emptied by lawyers for the rest of your life. If they can show that you did not take due care in towing your screwed. That means exceeding weight limits, poor tie downs or bad tires etc they will clean your clock. If you do it correctly and still have an accident it will be much easier for you as you will have done due dilligence.

Your claim to be traveling across the country. That is many miles do it right.
