Perusing Government Liquidators like I do, I have seen a "big truck tire machine". So I looked it up on the net and found the manual. Too bad I can't find any info now. Anyhow, the big machine was very mechanised, about 8-10 feet long. Lots of clamps and claws, it worked vertically like a computerised balancer. Like a giant lathe. 'Tailstock' compressed ring, operator removed lock, machine pulled rim apart. Opoerator wraps ratchet strap around donut and winds it (manual labor!)to a peanut shape. Allow peanut to fall to bottom of tire, hook chain to one end, and winch it out.
