My Wc53 Carryall has a Cummins 4BTA turning a NV-4500 which is married to a NP-205 and driving 4.89 difs. You did not specify what diesel you are considering, or maybe your open to suggestions. Many diesels are available, I have experience with the Cummins 4B Series. To run at highway speed, you will need a overdrive transmission and 4.89's to keep the RPM's within the engines spec. You 'should' also consider power steering and hydroboost power disk brakes. There is nothing that is plug and play. You will need to fabricate many items or have it done. I would suggest that you budget $8000.00 for the conversion. This estimate is based on (2) cummins conversions, my Carryall and my M37. Keep in mind, for all practable purposes the WC-53 Carryall install is exactly the same as it would be in a PW. I will also be putting a cummins in my Power Wagon and use all demensions for its install that I did on the Carryall. The M-37 is a different beast all by its self.

If you get to a point where you are real serious, we need to talk. I can level the big bumps and make the job quite enjoyable. Cant do it by email, we need to set up a phone Telecom.

To futher answer your original question, anything can be done. However it would be a terrible poor choice to use the old tranny you mentioned. You need 5 or 6 speeds with the final being OD. Now if your building it for strictly off road and off road speeds, then I would suggest different trannies/combinations

APB already gave the link to my Carryall, Thanks Art. Below is the link to the M37 with Cummins
