The part that screws into the spark
plug hole has a one way inlet valve. It opens when the piston drops
down, allowing fresh outside air to be drawn into the cylinder via this opening, and
then thru the spark plug hole. When the piston starts up the valve is closed
by the air pressure, and the fresh air is forced out via the hose. Mark H.
