I got a reply today from my congressman. Did you even contact Yours?

Dear Mr. Edmisten,

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding
immigration. I appreciate your taking the time to write.

I am pleased to inform you that I cosponsored and voted in
favor of the "Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal
Immigration Control Act of 2005," H.R. 4437, which passed the
House on December 16, 2005 by a bipartisan margin of 239 - 182.
This important comprehensive immigration enforcement bill
contained numerous provisions to strengthen existing law: (1)
creates an employment eligibility verification system to ensure
only legal immigrants are hired; (2) increases the penalties for the
smuggling of illegal aliens; (3) makes alien street gang members
inadmissible and deportable; (4) increases penalties for aliens who
reenter the U.S. after being deported; (5) aliens, refugees, and
asylees convicted of aggravated felonies would be barred from
admission and denied green cards; (6) ensures more cooperation
between border sheriffs and federal law enforcement; (7) allows
the Department of Homeland Security to detain dangerous aliens;
(8) makes aliens with multiple DUI offenses deportable; and (9)
bars aliens who are terrorists or security risks from becoming U.S.
citizens.

I voted in favor of the "Real ID Act of 2005," which passed
the House in bipartisan fashion on February 10, 2005 by a margin
of 261-161. Parts of this bill were signed into law on May 11,
2005. This legislation regulates the issuance of state driver's
licenses and identity documents and prevents terrorists from
abusing asylum laws.

I want to reiterate to you in the strongest terms that I
oppose all amnesties and all illegal immigration. We must not
reward lawbreakers, which will only encourage more illegal
immigration. We must also be fair to the many immigrants who
have come here legally and have obeyed all of our laws. We must
find a balance to ensure we have a legal workforce that is helping
our economy and a benefit to our nation. Thus, I will very carefully
monitor any new immigration proposals that come before me in the
House, and I will definitely keep your thoughts and views in mind
on this issue.

It is an honor to represent the people of the Second
Congressional District of South Carolina, and I value your input.

If I may be of further assistance to you, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Very Truly Yours,

Joe Wilson
Member of Congress
