Speaking as an Arizona kid myself here is what I did to my 79' ramcharger which sees alot of pulling time and desert romping time in the heat 120 degree weather and all that. I removed the stock radiator and put in a new 3 core from Modine, I took out the stock water pump and found one that had higher flowand installed that. I started running 20w-50 oil and replaced the oil pump with a higher flow. She also got a NEW RADIATOR CAP (big expense) and put in two Trany coolers one after the other. I pulled the ac system (since it wasn't working) along with all its parts and chucked them out. I put in a secondary engine oil cooler and moved the filter to a spot just behind the passenger side head light and put a engine oil filter cooler sleeve. I then installed a pusher electric blower fan on to the front of the radiator/trannycooler/oil filter and put it on a switch that I operate from the inside of the truck when I have to sit in traffic and then (the most radical of ideas) I removed and thru away the thermostat that was inline to the radiator from the engine and I have pulled very large loads with Geraldine(the trucks name) up to Payson,Snowflake,Prescott and Flagstaff and all over the place and she doesn't get hot! Well at least not enough to worry about her over heating. It's all about keeping you truck running cool in this heat. The next thing I plan on doing is wrapping the headers to try and cool it a few more degrees in side of the engine compartmnet. I also elected to throw out the engine shroud and that helped to cool her down a couple more degrees. She still has a flex fan with 6 arms and not on a clutch.
