I like the suggestion of keeping the sand color and marking the truck as a 442nd vehicle anyway.
Actually, a smaller Japanese American unit, the 100th Infantry Battalion was created prior to the 442nd. They were stationed in Africa for a few months as part of the 34th Div. before moving on to Italy late in ‘43. The 100th became one of three Battalions in the 442nd when the 442nd arrived in Naples in mid ’44. So while it’s unlikely, I suppose the 442nd could have been picked up a truck or two still sporting a desert sand paint job. (If I decide I can’t live with the discrepancy I can always shoot OD over it later right?)
