Once upon a time, before many of the nice little children on this forum were born, old guys like me would put the parkers on, to avoid being smacked upside the rear when parked at the beach...ahem..."watching the submarine races."

The Europeans, by the way, have very narrow streets, and often leave the parking lights on all night, while parked halfway up on the sidewalk. To reduce the load on the battery, the European makers employ a very clever electrical scheme: When the ignition switch is OFF, the turn signal switch turns on (steadily) the low-wattage filaments in the dual-filament lamps, fore and aft. No dashboard turn indicators, instrument lights or license plate lights come on, just the two lamps on the side of the car selected.

When the ignition switch is ON, the turn signal switch is restored to its regular duty, flashing the high-wattage filaments and the dash indicators.

The End
