First Series Bedsides

On a first series bedside, 1948 B-1, the headboard bolts to the siderails with (6) 5/16" bolts each side.

Does the rounded top rail on the headboard connect to the rounded top rail on the siderail? If so, how?

If they do connect along the top rails, how is that accomplished on the passenger side behind the spare tire where there is no rolled top rail?

Or are the (6) 5/16" bolts down each side the only thing that hold the headboard to the siderails?

Anyone have some pictures of this junction on a B-1 bed?
