"legal lead substitutes" Yeah, I can see where that was a Mac induced, confusing use of language. I meant exactly what you wrote, lead is banned and there is NO lead in the "lead substitutes" which is the reason they are called lead substitutes....= )
They are also called octane enhancers and it was correctly pointed out that there is a difference between the purpose of lead and octane. Keep in mind that most of the "names" of products are to avoid trouble with the regulators and promote or market the product.
Also keep in mind that most of these are Snake Oil.
