The ultimate factor may be that there are several types of "combat" rims and your tire SALESMAN is not familiar with the differences.

The WWII "Jeeps" had a rim that separated into two halves for easy tire changing. I'm not into WWII "Jeeps" enough to comment on their "run flat" capability - if any.

The modern military "HUMVEE" has a similar rim that has two halves that bolt together and seal with an "O" ring. Their "run flat" capability is from an internal hard rubber ring - again let's hear from a "HUMVEE" expert.

The WWII Dodge combat rim had a spacer ring that was clamped between the rim beads to hold the tire tight for "run flat" capability. I have the pages from the Army Technical Manual posted that show how this clamp ring is removed and installed.

Modern bead locks actually clamp only the outer bead of the tire to the rim. They look like our WC combat rims but they work differently.

COTM - Has the snow melted up your way? We are having record heat - 95 degrees for Easter. All the chocolate Easter bunnies are melted.
