Hello All,
I've just rebuilt the front steering knuckles on my 1944 WC-51 ( 3/4 ton weapons carrier). When I had to shim the top bushing
plate ( to arrive at the 27 ft/lbs of torque listed in the manual) I had to use a lot more shims than the 3 supplied ( for each side) by VPW. On the passenger side, I actually had to make an additional shim ( .040), and added almost all the shims I had left ( about another .045"). I got the preload right, which is ( I hope) the main thing.Upon disassembly, each side only had one shim. Is something out of whack here ( bearings and bushings are pressed all the way home, top bronze bushings are NOS ). I suspect that the new lower bearing must be slightly taller than the original ones ? If that's the case, should I menion it to VPW, so that they can add more shims to their kits ?
TIA,DanG
