Usually when the solenoid goes the truck just won't shut off unless you pull the lever manually.
I had trouble on my red 93 when I switched to the 94-98 P-Pump with this same solenoid. The wiring sends 12V to the solenoid to get it to start but there are two wires...one sends 12V to actuate the solenoid...the other is a lower voltage that allows the solenoid to just hold the valve open. If you reverse these wires or just send 12V to the lower voltage side...it will fry the solenoid within a few weeks.
