When I first started working with the Longshoremen in Anacortes,years before I was taken in as a member,I worked with many WW 11 Veterans. One, Ralph McCary spent his whole time in the Army as a Mechanic building The Road. When we left at the end of hostilities, he helped bury many, many big Catterpellar(spell)Tractors and other large equipment. Also said he thought most of the Studebaker production had been sent to Alaska. In the beginning when something quit running they just pushed it out of the way and kept on with the road building.
