I have a set of axle shafts for rear M37 made of 300M. These 'should' be stronger than most stock D60 shafts. I say 'should' because strength tests were not conducted and there's a big difference in the spline design. Heck, only a half dozen sets were made. I don't know who manufactured them, just that Daniel Tibus had them made. Later he had a run of less-expensive 4130 units made, along with 4130 fronts.

IIRC, the majority of OEM D60 shafts are ~1.3"/30 spline. 14-bolt and D70 are a significant step up from D60 axle shaft strength.

Stock flat-fender axle shafts suffer from poor metallurgy(atleast it is had aged poorly) and the course spline that is cut vs rolled. Of course, even my 'fancy' 300M shafts have the course cut spline which is the weak spot.
