Mikey:

You still do not get it. The last thing Gil really wanted to hear was "Read the Manual". Yes it would have been nice for him to have one to begin with, but he didn't. He needed help now not hours or days in the future as Mopar stated. If you have not noticed people give answers here to help people. Take some of that book knowledge you have and share it with the guys here rather than giving your pat answer "Read the Manual". I appreciate Paul Cook when he shares his knowledge even if it is straight from the book.

I have no problems with manuals they usually are good sources of information but not everyone has them when needed.

Right now I am in a major project. I cut two Willys Wagons in two and am now grafting the halves into a single truck. I have never have done this before. There is no manual on how to do it. No reference documents at all. I have the service manual for the truck. It is not covered in there either. I am taking my basic knowledge of welding and body work and walking into uncharted territory. I have learned a lot. When I need assistance I go to a friend who is an experienced body man who makes suggestions over the phone. He never has told me to "Go read the manual" He provides suggestions and sometimes comes over to help.

Not many bodymen make the jump from accident repair to being an artisan. I really have a lot of respect for people like Chip Foose and his dad along with Jesse James who have really moved "beyond the book" to become artisans. I doubt that they follow the book on every vehicle that they build.

Enough said.
