There is still a chance of axle breakage. It should not worsen the current situation too much. Many people have been using the lock-right lockers without a significant increase in axle breakage. From the reading that I have done, an automatic locker is more likely to cause axle breakage than a selectable locker because of the engagement under load. The 'jerk' associated with engagement on an automatic locker can cause a dramatic increase in axle loads causing premature failure. A selectable locker avoids this sudden engagement. In addition, the selectable locker will provide open differential performace on hard surfaces such as pavement, further reducing the likelyhood of axle failures.

I guess the bottomline is that there are no guarantees (for 50 year old axles), but this is better than the alternatives.

I hope this is helpful.
Dan
