Round trip of 728 miles from CT to near Rochester NY. I left 1:30am this morning and got back at 2:10 pm. I am disappointed with the fuel economy in my 04 Dodge diesel. I averaged 8.5 mpg I was flying though.Anyone else out there have an 04 Dodge diesel? I seem to get about 11 unloaded. I am interested in what other people are getting. And Paul, from NY Your right about the six speed, I think I am finally used to it. It is great for towing. Unloaded it need a bigger overdrive. I have the 3:73 gears I'd like to see the rpms around 1800 at 70-75 not 2200 it seems to be at 2500 at 80. Gee why don't I have better MPG? lol At one point around 3 am, I was on a pretty good grade with the power wagon on the trailer, I was noticing I couldn't hold 65-70, I then realized it was more of a grade then I thought. remeber this is 3am. I downshifted to 5th pickuped speed went back to OD then a short time later still on the hill I smelled clutch I didn't notice an increase in rpm. I downshifted to 5th and it went away. Are the stock clutchs not quite good enough? I probably had close to an 8000 pound load. the truck on the equiptment trailer and the NOS engine , engine crane and tools in the bed of the truck.
