In general the 230 crank (8 bolt) is about 1/4 to 5/16 longer than the 217 (4 bolt) crank. You probably need an 8 bolt flywheel which has a deeper recess cut in it for the crank hub. I got one from Vintage Power Wagons a couple months ago. BTW, the P15s (1946-48) use a dash mounted switch for the starter, not the floor switch. A 1953 engine should have a S/N starting with P23. Sounds like your rig has already had a couple replacments made to it. You should buy a Hollanders Interchange Manual, which has a ton of info about what swaps work and don't.
