Have done it a few times. One get the Draino in the solid form and put it in there and let it go to work. You can use the concentrated toilet bowl cleaner that has the acid, but it does not work as well. I finish up with Laquer thinner.
A furnace brush is a handy item to have as well.
It will take longer than you expect so set aside one Saturday.
