{{It is my belief the IND designation applies to the use of sodium filled valves. }}

As to the use of sodium filled valves on industrial engines, Chrysler used these valves on heavy duty applications. All the heavy truck engines got them in the 30's and I would assume this practice continued through the 40's and beyond. This is why so many flat heads can run unleaded fuel with no valve seat regression. Tetraethyle lead wasn't around for passenger cars until the early 50's although it was developed in the 30's.
