Thanks for the compliment, but Dennis Gilliam and others know more than me about 3-53 swaps. Dennis put a 3-53 and a Spicer 3053A overdrive 5 spd into a M37 ~20 yrs ago and still drives it. The main dimensional problem is height, secondarily weight. I have some ideas in both regards. The 3-53 is ~250-300 lbs heavier than a comparable output Cummins or Perkins, and probably gets 5-10% poorer mileage (though still way better than the flathead) than the 4 cycles.
