Just a further note on HD axles:

I've called around but I haven't been able to find any axle blanks that could be adapted for an M37 rear axle, primarily due to the combination of the length (of the left axle) and the flange pattern. However, Dutchman Axle (503-257-6604) said that they could machine new axles from steel billets and heat treat them, giving you a set of axles that are much stronger than the originals. They didn't give me an exact price, but estimated that it would run roughly 500 to 550 dollars for a pair of axle shafts. You'd have to send them one of your old axles, plus the overall length of the other axle. 550 dollars may not sound cheap, but there's a lot of machine shop time involved. If you use your vehicle out in the sticks a lot, or if you have a locking/limited-slip differential, I think this would be a good idea.
