If you have a spring-type driver's seat cushion, it could have had either a canvas or vinyl/"Naugahyde" seat cover, as Gerry mentioned, with grommets and drawstrings to attach it to the spring assembly. I've also seen molded vinyl driver's side seat cushions, where the vinyl was molded on one piece right over a foam cushion on a styrofoam base. There was some sort of reinforcing in the styrofoam so that the two mounting bolts had something to grip. These molded cushions are shiny affairs that look like a half-melted olive-drab gumdrop.

My '66 M37B1 had OD textured vinyl seat covers underneath the OD canvas seat covers. I'm not sure yet which I'll go with for the replacement covers.
