Buy it and keep it 6 volt. It should be fairly simple to change to 12 if you really want to - but that would lower the resale value. I remember that the 6 and 12 volt units have different fan belts for some reason, but I would expect to be able to swap generators and regulators plus bulbs, then just drive away, the starter you could ignore till you had a problem (unlikely). There really is nothing wrong with the 6v system, it is not so much of a pig to start as my 6v GMC DUKW, for example. If you need to run 12v accessories like a radio just fit another 6v battery and charge it now and again. WC Dodges are not really Power Wagons - just as good but differen.
