I never throw away a Dodge script bolt, as they are nice touches when putting things like bumpers back on. D/P/C/D heads (Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto ?) marked bolts are always worth keeping. Most bolts can be replaced with modern equivalents if they are too far gone, but I know from experience it is almost impossible to get matching head types to the originals if they are other than plain hex. There is one particular size that does not seem to be made anymore, it is either 10g x 24 tpi UN or 12g x 24 tpi UN (equivalent to the larger optional size for 3/16th UNC). It is used on hard cabs and Carryalls to retain the door lock internal remote control mechanisms and window winder mechanisms. When I'm cleaning up the originals and re-tapping I dip them in "Kure-Rust" (British product) which seems to be some sort of phosphoric acid with a pickling effect, gives a black finish to the cleaned fastener and protects all that newly exposed metal that was originally plated. Anyone on the list got a good source for script bolts and / or hard to find sizes ? Gordon.
