Paul; I agree. Many make it so painful no wonder why they have such a bad reputation. The dealer that I have most recently used has really been fairly good and everyone that I have talked to seems to say that they are OK. I got none of the to the back room to check with the boss routine the price was settled with the sales person and he did not leave his desk. We dickered on my trade in (the first I ever have done) and they started a little low but I got very close to what I knew it was worth.
That said, I have run into many dealers that I have walked out on and told them specificaly why I was leaving. During my last truck purchase one dealer offered 4K less for my trade in which was very clean and had low miles and they had nothing in stock to buy (but could get it from another dealer). They said that there was no demand for my truck. I walked and bought the next day at a different dealer. The other dealer called back 2 months later and said that they were ready to deal and that they had a buyer for my truck. I simply said I bought from another dealer the day after I walked out and they gave me 4K more for the trade in than you said was possible.
The other thing I can not understand is the price of parts at dealers. They seem to charge a lot for their branded box. I can buy the identical part I mean the exact part from the same source with the same numbers cast into it for a whole lot less. Lets not talk labor rates they have.
