One more clue that you came upon a scam is that if you are surfing E-bay and your session times out, or you go somewhere (like you account invoice) that is more secure, E-bay only asks for your password, not your ID.

If you get asked for both it would only be because you are logging in fresh, or your cookies got cleaned.

Also always check the URL of the page you are entering your password into.

I have never seen E-bay ask me for my password on a pop up screen, only on pages with a Location bar and a visable https: URL.
