It washes the oil off bearing surfaces. probably fine. but don't run it anymore until you solve the problem. change oil and filter. I have had a few parts store pumps go bad becasue they sat on the shelf for who knows howmany years. I guess you could pump by hand and see if fuel is leaking into the lever side. there really is no other way large amounts of fuel can enter the crankcase that rapidly.
