Vermont Dmv used to be like that. They seem to have really cleaned house of all of the folks whose job seemed to be to find ways to deny you what ever you were there for. A few years ago I ended up with my Dads Triumph after he died. I did not want to pay 6% tax on its value so I called DMV to ask how to go about it. I was told a list of documents I would need, including a death certificate. I rounded up all of these things and showed up to register it. The clerk looked it all over and asked for 1 more item that I did not have. When I told her I did not have it she looked at the application a bit longer and noticed that my Dad and I have the same name. She handed back all of the documentation except for the registration and said, You are just registering your own car, right? Um, er, uh, right, just registering my own car! I was out of there in no time with plates and no tax. I have had several other quirky registrations that they have found ways to expedite, all while giving the impression that they really wanted to help you. Other states should follow their lead.
