I guess I'm the opposite way with the hikers. I have a small lot that's right at what used to be the start of a hiking trail. The previous owner didn't like people walking through the lot to get to the trail, so closed it off and made the Forest Service build a bypass over a mile long to get to a public road. I don't use the lot for anything, and there's room to park, so I don't care if people walk across it to go up the trail. Whenever I've seen somebody up that way, which is always just locals hunting, I tell them they're more than welcome to use the old trail through my lot and not waste their time with the roundabout bypass. It'd be different if I was near a big city and there were hordes of people and I had a house on the lot.
As for the parts thief, I hope you'll set the law on him ASAP, if not to protect you, then to protect the rest of us with old trucks. There aren't many thieves who are interested in old trucks, so that guy needs to be shut down immediately.
