I disassembled this 230 that I got in a deal. The seller said it ran like a top when he took it out to replace with a small block Chevy. The guy is reputable, so I thought all was good. Aparrently the engine was stored outside for about 3 months with no cover on it( unknown to me at the time of purchase) and was subsequently filled with water, which froze. I did not(could not) see the long crack in the block water jacket because of the amount of dirt and oil on it. I completly disassembled the engine, and much to my surprise the inside was like new, excepting three cylinders that took in water. Some one has obviously been inside this engine and did a great job of total rebuild. The mains and other bearings had no wear, nor the pistons ,crank, cam, valves, etc. I regret to say that I made every attempt at welding the crack and failed miserably, should have gone to a pro. Even they would have probably said forget it and count your losses. So now my question is can I have all these parts reinserted in another block without to much fuss? Tim, this idea sounds spectacular and I won't feel like I wasted time and money. The crack was (is) about 7 inches in one place and about 3 in another. Today I made it much longer. Again all input much appreciated!
