I have PWs with 4.89s and 5.83s.
In theory, you can go about 20% faster but I don't think you will. I can run about 50-55 with 4.89s and maybe do 48-50 with the 5.83s. The engine isn't really strong enough to go much faster than that. Also, as you note, the brakes are poor so driving fast is not a great idea. Finally, the steering gear doesn't match up to current systems especially since they are usually worn. This can mean a bad shimmy if you hit railroad tracks, potholes etc at speed.
Really nothing about these trucks was probably designed to do more than 45-50.
