I'm not sure, but I would tend to think it is not valve noise. I believe the valve noise would be constant rather than intermittent if they were out of adjustment. Is the noise apparent only when driving or can you hear it when sitting still and revving the engine up to higher RPM's. Does it make the noise when the engine is cold as well as hot? I'm sure you'll find an answer on the Forum. Let us know what you find out.
