I bought a 99 Durango new. T case is NV242HD and yes when you take it out of any of the 3 4 wheel drive choices , it generally hangs up in such. The forks are spring loaded so the shifter will move easily. I get mine out quite easily by giving the 360 a kick in the but and if possible on loose ground to unwind it and it comes out of 4 wheel every time. All of my 4 wheel drives I have had did this to some degree however I do not consider this to be a problem. I have seen a lot of front diffs in other peoples car and trucks go bad because they never check or change oil.
