I just got fooled on an old bearing out of a Dumore grinder that I was sure was .625" ID and 1.5" OD. Sure looked close on my calipers. Glad I took it to the bearing house with me. Turns out it was metric, 16 mm X 38 mm, and they don't make them any more. Had to get 16 mm x 35 mm bearings and turn myself a couple press-fit sleeves to take up the difference.

I would agree with Chris on trying to get a bearing with the right ID, but I think the odds are slim. Either way I'd want a bearing in there not a plain bushing, since that's what it was made for. The shaft will spin in the bushing from time to time and lubrication is pretty iffy there. A bushing works okay on a car or light truck, but whatever the 3053 is going in is probably more than a light truck.
