I flew C-117's back in the '60s and 70's out of NAS Norfolk. We had 5 or 6 of them at any one time and used them for East coast courier runs and staff, vip, and prisoner runs for the 5th Naval District.
The 117 was a C-47 upgrade done by the Navy in the '50s with enlarged fuselage and tail, 1500hp engines and gear doors. I really loved those old things. They were the only thing I miss about the Navy.
