What I have done in the past when hooking up civilian(12v) accessories to military (24v) trucks is just tap into one positive post. The batteries are in series, so one positive post will give you 12v between it and ground and the other will give you 24v between it and ground. If you decide to go this route, don't forget to put a fuse or fusible link close to the battery, or you can risk burning up an important bit of history. When checking, ensure the negative lead for the voltmeter is on a good chassis ground, and not on a battery negative post in order to get a proper reading. Hope this helped.
