I cant think of a time that corporations were not run by accountants. All big business has always been profit driven, hence the needs for labor unions in the 20s and 30s. Not that labor problems did not exist before the 20s. The industries that had labor problems had them because they were either not paying their workers enough or the job conditions were poor. Both things would cut into the net profit if rectified. so, greed is nothing new, it started when the cave people started using nuts or sticks for currency. If you ask an old timer about the good old days he is likely to tell you that they were not all that good!
