We do it all the time without fuses and most of the time nothing bad happens (like leaning over the chain saw, standing next to the winch, grinding without goggles). Actually this might be one of the few cases where a fuse would actually protect something. On modern solid-state equipment it's a well-known law of electrical engineering that in any circuit containing a fuse and a transistor, the transistor will blow fast enough to protect the fuse.
