I've also been involved with forestry over the years and have a great appreciation of wood. What I feel has been a big part of the problem is the assumption that we know better that nature and that we can grow trees faster and better in a plantation setting. In B.C. many foresters and forest scientist would talk about the super trees that they are able to grow but which really only amount to fibre not wood.We still have a high volume low vaue model instead of the converse when it comes to harvesting. On the coast and around Vancouver Island where I live we've seen a complete lack of vision when it comes to our forests.
