I also would suggest installing the sheet metal on a newer frame and running gear to get what you are wanting to achieve. The suspension, steering, brakes and running gear are all designed by some pretty good factory engineers to all work together. I know I've taken some old vehicles and radically changed them to do what I want, but this has been an evolutionary thing over the years. You have a vision of the final product, which is essentially modern steering, brakes, suspension and running gear with vintage sheet metal, so why not just plop the sheet metal on an already good package and have a nice result. Whatever you decide to do, you'll have a very unique truck.
