I ended up buying one. Nobody around here will rent a trailer to haul anything larger than a small car. Some of the construction rental firms do but they are really big trailers. It seems to be a liability thing around here. I have been to the PW ralley at Hollister CA and everyone has a rented trailer. I even saw some from a small rental firm that I used when I lived there.

I believe that most rental places like UHAUL and etc shy away from them. First anything over 4000# should be towed by a 1 ton truck and have a trailer breaking system. Not many average Joe renters have a sufficiently large or equiped truck to tow larger trailers with. I can just see a guy walk in wanting to put a full size pick up on a trailer and tow it with a F150. Not many intelligent people out there. An of course if they did rent to him he would sue for damages when he could not stop it when driving 75 down the mountain.

Last sunday, I was traveling from CA to WA and stopped for gas in Oregon. There in the station was a older Nissan pick up (small) with a full size 5th wheel attached to it. The 5th wheel was about 27' long. It was really down on the front end as it was not designed to be on such a low/small truck. As I said there are a lot of people out there with out any brains.

Around here if you loose a tire on a 4 wheel drive and you have greater less than 95% tread on any tire they will not sell you a replacement tire unless you buy a full set. On 2WD they want 2 tires. I have talked to several good tire shops and they simply said they have been sued too many times. Apparently people bust a transfer case or have an accident on ice or snow and have been able to blame it on mismatched tires. However, you can walk in with a loose tire and have them mount a new tire on it with no questions. The wonders of a society driven by a sue happy legal framework.
