I like Chris make my own harness. When I do one of my trucks, very early if not first is side cutters and wack out all the old wire.

Then at the correct time, I start wireing it back up. I use proper gauge wire for the circuit current draw. I also add a 6 circuit
fuse panel under the dash. Circuits are broken up so I cant loose all power should a fuse blow. I perfer the fuses over breakers. If a breaker goes bad in a remote area you could have a problem finding one. Everyone carries fuses and you can carry a nice assortment with you for very little money.

One trick I do when wireing. I use a 12 volt
current limit power supply. The power supply feeds the main feed point on the fuse panel. When each circuit is completed, A fuse is inserted in the panel for that circuit. If you have a problem, you will know it immeidatelly and be able to fix the problem before you get lot of other wires run. When the last circuit is complete and tested, you KNOW, everything is ok.

Its much cheaper to do your own wireing than buy assembled harness. However even doing your own the correct way costs a good hung of change.
