I was reading about them just now. They used a cylinder to pull the brakes off with vacuum. So if they lose vacuum the brakes would go on. Sorta like the trucks using air pressuer now. Interesting to find Air Brakes were invented in 1918 so they have been around a long time even befor vacuum brakes that were starting to be used in the 30s. Mark H.
