What is your end goal ? If you are planning on going with a manual Tranny. Then the question which tranny ? GM SM 465, Dodge NV-4500 or ??

Each one, GM/Dodge/?? will require its own Flywheel Housing Adapter and Bell Housing, Flywheel, Clutch etc. If your planning on staying with the Turbo 400, then this deal you mention has merit. You have a 50/50 chance of just replacing bearings, and any other things you feel should be changed while you have it open.

If your planning on going manual transmission, the cheapest way is to get a 4B series engine already mated to a Manual Tranny. Most Bread type Vans use the GM flywheel housing adapter/Bell House and mate to a SM-465. If your planning on going with a Dodge NV-4500, you will need to buy a Flywheel housing adapter, Bell House, Flywheel etc from a Dodge CTD 1994 up, and this can be very costly.

If your planning on building a off road rig, your 5.83's ring and pinions will be fine. But on road you will be limited by engine RPM 's to 40-45 mph keeping the Cummins below red line at 2500 R's. SO for on road use, you will need to consider 4.89 ring and pinions and a transmission with overdrive.

If you share with up your ultimate goal , ie useage, we can better make suggestions based on actual use of a Cummins in PW's/WC/M37.
